Meet Coach Jackie
My name is Jackie Moore. I am excited to be joining Old Pike as your head coach for the 2018 summer season. My experience includes three years on a summer swim team as their assistant swim coach, one season as a club team coach and four years as an assistant high school swim coach where we took swimmers to state all four years. I have also been a Stroke and Turn Official in the Northland Conference for two summers.
I’m eager to be your head coach. My main goal is to meet the swimmers where they are – whether they are brand new to swim, participate only during the summer or have been swimming club for many years. I like to focus on the details. Improving stroke technique and taking the time to work on flip turns and starts can take that half a second off a swimmer’s time. I love every aspect of the swim. The practice, the motivation of a new swimmer competing in a race for the first time or helping those swimmers calm their nerves when they are about to strive for championship time. I want to be each and every swimmers biggest cheerleader but also give positive, constructive feedback after a race so they can improve next time.
I will be present on the pool deck. I love the water. I will demonstrate a technique if necessary or join in on days where there needs to be fun and a little time for play. I will be right there with the swimmers enjoying it. Summer swim is a time for fun!
I want the swimmers and parents to know that I pay attention to where the swimmers are and what they need. There will be hard workouts on some days and there will be other days where we will be focusing on turns and block starts. It all adds up. I pay attention to detail, those extra five minutes at the end of practice for those swimmers that are having trouble with a dive or technique. I’m there to help increase their competence and self-confidence as athletes.
My goal for the team – each swimmer will do their best, have fun and try to win. I’m looking forward to a great year as an Old Pike Shark.
